Streetlamps were ablaze, and music was heard throughout the town as Mardi Gras flavored the city like no other holiday. People scurried home to prepare for the evening festivities; others were already out on the town. Strangely enough, there were still those who merely wandered in and out of the niches of buildings, like lone sea creatures floating in and out of the underwater caverns that make up the depths of the great blue ocean.
